SHORT TERM SUPPORT FOR LONG TERM INDEPENDENCE

Southdown is a leading provider of specialist housing related support services across Sussex. By delivering short term support we help people to deal with issues that threaten their accommodation and develop long term independence. Services are flexible and outcome-focused, giving prompt advice and support as well as signposting people onto other appropriate local services and agencies.

Practice Development Trainer - Lewes, East Sussex

We have an exciting opportunity within our expanding Training Department for a Practice Development Trainer to work with our housing support and supported employment services. Our services support a wide range of vulnerable people, including people who use mental health services or have learning or other disabilities. Southdown Housing Association is a innovative organisation and this new role has been created to meet the needs of our expanding and changing services. We have an excellent reputation for the quality of our staff and our service provision and we are keen to have an in-house specialist within the training department to champion and guide practice quality. We know that staff learning and development is a key element in good quality service provision, and the role will be critical to helping staff develop their practice to meet current and new agendas.

In addition to designing and delivering training, you will provide practice advice to individuals and groups of staff and will work with managers and services to develop practice and the accompanying processes. You must have considerable practice experience at a senior practitioner or management level, excellent presentation skills and an ability to help others problem solve, learn and change their practice. You should be able to research information from a wide range of sources, analyse this and disseminate relevant information to staff. A commitment to person-centred, empowering approaches that enable people who use our services to achieve independence and their own goals with time limited support is crucial, as is an ability to involve people who use services in staff learning and development. Whilst experience of delivering training is desirable, if you have the practice experience and skills we require, plus enthusiasm and confidence, we can provide input to enable you to develop expertise in formal training design and delivery.

Service Manager - Seaford

This is an exciting opportunity to manage a well established, 5 person registered service in Seaford. The current manager is moving on and we are looking for a new manger who will maintain the excellent standard of practice in the home. Residents present some challenges and the manager need expertise in supporting staff to work professionally with people who are autistic and who need significant support with communication.

To be a successful manager in this service you will need:

  • Experience as a Deputy Manager
  • Experience of working with people with Learning Disabilities including those who can challenge services
  • Registered Managers award and NVQ level 4 or equivalent, or qualification at NVQ level 3, and a commitment to undertaking further management training
  • To be approved by the CQC as the Registered Manager
  • A commitment to person centred individualised services
  • The ability to develop and support a committed team of staff.

FINANCE ASSISTANT - LEWES

An opportunity has arisen within the Finance Department for a part time Finance Assistant. This is a new post created by the expansion of the organisation and the increasing demands on the Finance Team as a whole.

Main duties will include:

  • Assisting with sales invoices
  • Assisting with input of rent data
  • Filing and archiving of a range of financial records
  • Production and distribution of monthly budget hours statements
  • Manage and control the associations mileage returns and vehicle usage & reconcile to Paytrak statements
  • Assisting with input of Imprest onto SUN accounting system
  • Copying and distribution of accounts
  • Banking

HOME WORKS

The new East Sussex Home Works floating support service started on 1st July 2009 and has quickly built up an excellent reputation in the area, delivering responsive and innovative support to a wide range of individuals and families in a variety of challenging situations. We work with people aged 16-64 who need short term housing related support. We are looking to fill the following vacancies in our Eastbourne, Hastings and Rother teams:

Floating Support Offcers - Eastbourne & Hastings & Rother Teams

Using your well-developed knowledge of local resources and understanding of the support needs of vulnerable people, you will help us deliver a first class service that helps people reach their goals following an agreed action plan. This is an exciting an challenging role. Managing your own caseload with the ability to delegate appropriate work to Floating Support Assistants, you will have good IT, communication and numeracy skills.

This post requires you to be a driver with access to a car for work purposes.

Floating Support Assistants - Eastbourne, Hastings & Rother

You will provide support to help service users to deal with immediate situations that may be placing their housing at risk, or help establishing a new home. This is a practical role that requires people to be able to manage situations calmly whilst encouraging service users to develop their own skills and confidence. You need to engage with people quickly and and be flexible and responsive. You will need IT skills as service user notes are all held on computer. This is an ideal role for people wanting to develop a role in community based support work.

This post requires you to be a driver with access to a car for work purposes.

Southdown has taken over a contract to provide 4 supported living schemes for people with severe learning disabilities in the Chichester area.

Southdown will take over 2 existing schemes in Southbourne and another in Midhurst on the 19th April 2010 and then 2 new, purpose built schemes in Chichester and Midhurst will open on 1st June 2010.

These are new and exciting posts within Southdown and we are looking for people who want to be part of a new team and can support the tenants :

  • To learn new skills
  • To participate in a range of leisure activities
  • To participate in cooking and household activities
  • With personal care tasks

All applicants for these posts should be 21 years or over (Reg 8, Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 applies.) All posts require you to be a driver with D1 category and have had this category on your licence for at least 2 years,

Relief Workers - Ref : RSWi

 

This role provides cover in services when permanent Support Workers are on leave, off sick or on training courses.   You will assist with the provision of support and care services to a group of people who have learning difficulties, and sometimes physical disabilities, within their own home, to enable these people to live as fully independently as possible and to enjoy lifestyles as close as possible to those enjoyed by other members of the community.
