SHORT TERM SUPPORT FOR LONG TERM INDEPENDENCE

Southdown is a leading provider of specialist housing related support services across Sussex. By delivering short term support we help people to deal with issues that threaten their accommodation and develop long term independence. Services are flexible and outcome-focused, giving prompt advice and support as well as signposting people onto other appropriate local services and agencies.

We continue to expand the services that we provide and to meet this growth are always keen to consider applications from people who are keen to develop their careers with Southdown. The type of posts that we have on offer :

Chef - Brighton - Ref: CPPi

Main duties for this role will be planning and producing lunches (Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays) for up to 35 people at a Resource Centre in Brighton for mental health service users and being responsible for health and hygiene in the kitchen and dining area.

All applicants should:

  • Hold a Health and Hygiene Certificate
  • Have good inter-personal skills
  • Have experience of producing menus / meals and budget control
  • Have experience of working with people who have different support needs
  • Have experience of working within a team

The Independent Living Scheme

This is an established scheme working in partnership with local authorities and registered social landlords to provide tenancies with support. It offers an alternate housing option for vulnerable members of the community to prevent homelessness and a stepping stone to independence , Due to one of our team returning to full time education we are looking to fill the following vacancy:

Floating Support Officer - Horsham and Crawley - Ref: FSOHi

Using your knowledge of local resources and understanding of the support needs of vulnerable people, you will help deliver a first class service that helps people move into and sustain their tenancy.

You will work to an agreed action plan, involving the service user throughout to identify goals that lead to greater independence and ensure they have opportunities to shape service delivery.

You will manage your own case load, have good IT, communication and team work skills.

Area Office Coordinator - Brighton - Ref: AOCBi

An Area Office Coordinator is required in our busy Brighton Housing Team. Specific responsibility will be to provide business support to the area office. The role requires you to work closely with managers and front line staff. This is a key post which is at the hub of the department, providing administrative support to Floating Support Officers within the department and in the wider organisation.

You will have experience of maintaining administrative systems, office management and collation of statistics . You will provide reception cover and deliver a professional service to service users, professionals and contractors.

Excellent IT Skills are required for this post.

You will work in a supportive team and receive regular supervision from the Team Leader. All staff receive a full induction.

 Support Worker - Portslade - Ref: SWMLi

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Support Worker at this established service for five adults with learning and physical disabilities. You will be part of a committed team that provides support to and advocates on behalf of the service users. The service users live in a purpose built, fully accessible home in Portslade and do not use speech so you should be able to communicate in other ways.

The aim of the service is to support the service users to participate fully in all aspects of their time at home and in the community. We work closely as a team to achieve this and to maintain our CQC rated 3 star - excellent standards, therefore the ability to communicate clearly and to contribute ideas is important to the continued success of this service.

Support Worker - East Brighton - Ref: WWSWi

We have an exciting opportunity to join this service in East Brighton. This service supports 8 adults with learning disabilities and physical disabilities who live in their own home. Service users are supported to live a fill and active lifestyle within the local community, participating in interests of their choice and maintaining a strong network of friendship with friends and family.

Extensive induction training will provide you with the skills you need to become a successful support worker. Additional payments are made for sleep in duties.

Community Support Worker

Hours : 30 per week (over at least 4 days to include some Saturday and evening work
Salary : £16,795 per annum, pro rata + £955 per annum, pro rata car users allowance

Southdown's Community Support Service works with a wide range of vulnerable adults providing them with support in their own homes to help promote independence and reduce social isolation. The work involves supporting Service Users with :

  • Leisure activities
  • Developing new skills
  • Claiming benefits and grants
  • Budgeting
  • Liaising with landlord or managing home ownership responsibilities
  • Liaising with other relevant support agencies
  • Carrying out domestic tasks including shopping and cleaning
  • Managing their health including healthy eating and lifestyle

We do not carry out tasks for people but actively support them to live as independently as possible.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and imaginative person who respects service user choice and can also help stimulate new interests.

Home Works rolling Floating Support Officers and Floating Support Assistants - Hastings & Rother

Home Works provides short - term support to create long term independence for anyone who needs help and support to deal with issues that place them at risk of homelessness. The service employs 100 staff across East Sussex and we are always keen to hear from people who would be interested in joining one of our team. Fixed Term Floating Support Assistant - £16,795pa + essential car user allowance - Ref: AFS

This is an ideal role for people wanting to develop a role in community based support work. You will provide support to help service users to deal with immediate situations that may be placing their housing at risk, or help establishing a new home. This is a practical role that requires people to be able to manage situations calmly whilst encouraging service users to develop their own skills and confidence. You need to engage with people quickly and be flexible and responsive. You will need IT skills as service user notes are all held on computer.

This is a fixed term post until 31st January 2011.

Helping challenge the stigma of mental health in the workplace

Through our specialist Supported Employment Services we provide support to people with mental health needs to access paid work, voluntary work or education. Southdown's services have been acknowledged as an 'emerging centre of excellence' by the Sainsbury Centre for Mental health. We operate services across Sussex and are looking to recruit to the following post:

Employment Specialist - West Sussex (based in either Horsham, Bognor or Worthing) Ref: ESWS

Working within on of Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust's Community Mental Teams or Early Intervention Teams, you will directly support people with mental health needs to achieve their employment goals, in line with the Individual Placement of Support Model. You will also liaise directly with employers to provide ongoing support to enable people to retain jobs. With experience of providing employment advice you will also demonstrate a strong commitment and empathy to maximise work opportunities for people with mental health needs.
