We know that the quality of our services depends on the skills of our staff. That’s why our award-winning training team provides a range of learning and development opportunities for every person who works for us. Through this specialised training, we make sure staff have the skills they need to support people to live the lives they choose. We have an extensive in-house training programme, from induction to management development.
We are experienced in tailoring our training to meet the needs of individual staff and services. Most importantly, we are also skilled in helping staff use what they learn so that it has a positive impact on the people we support.
Our learning and development provision is informed by current ideas about best practice and reflects the strong values that Southdown holds. Our trainers are experienced practitioners and managers and our training is shaped by our experience of providing high quality support – it is based on what we know works.
Training for internal staff and those from other organisations
Workshops and seminars to support good practice in care, supported housing and supported employment (including learning disabilities and mental health) – from induction to more advanced courses
Coaching, mentoring and individual study plans to meet learning and development needs
Personal and professional development workshops
Management development for managers and supervisors
Southdown’s training for staff in care and supported living settings meets Skills for Care induction standards. Learning disability induction training is mapped to the Learning Disability Induction Award. Many of our courses contribute to the knowledge staff require for National Vocational Qualifications in Care or housing qualifications.
