Jean Catt, a tenant from Hailsham, and the residents of a residential service at Harison Road in Seaford, were the joint winners of Southdown Housing Association’s Garden Challenge Trophy. The presentation was made at the Association’s annual garden award event held recently at Michelham Priory.
The annual garden competition had 150 entries, with prizes awarded for many different categories. Jean Catt moved into her home in January and has designed her garden from scratch. She said:
“I’ve been gardening all my life and never won a trophy, I’m really excited .I’m hoping to be a competition judge next year and encourage other gardeners.”
The Seaford residents, a group of people with learning disabilities, won due to their impressive display of flowers, vegetables and shrubs, as well as the neatest shed in the organisation!
Aideen Jones, Southdown’s Chief Executive said:
“We know that getting involved in gardening has so many benefits for people it’s something we really encourage. There has been some tough competition this year as the overall standard of the gardens has been really high. I can’t wait to see what our tenants produce next year!”
