Service user involvement in the selection and recruitment of staff
It is standard practice for service users to be actively involved in the selection and recruitment of staff. This ensures that we recruit people the service users feel have the skills and personal qualities to provide effective support. All service users who wish to get involved in selecting and recruiting staff are offered training. Activities they assist with include:
Writing statements to go out with adverts that describes the service
Helping review and write job descriptions and person specifications
Helping write interview questions
Meeting candidates on the day of the interview
Conducting a parallel interview with other service users and feeding into the main interview panel
Sitting as a full panel member

Service user involvement in staff induction and training
Following on from the selection and recruitment activities a number of service users assist us to deliver induction and training to staff. This includes:
Running a 1 hour session on the mandatory induction day
Assist in reviewing the training needs for staff – this session is led by our Training Manager
Helping produce a ‘what service users want from staff’ DVD – this is shown to all staff and used at public recruitment events
